The
Theological Practorium was first conceived by Pastor J Hudson Thayer
and founded at the Mansfield Grace Brethren Church, where he is
the Senior Pastor, in 1980. Over the last twenty years many serious
students of the Bible have received advanced Theological Studies
and professional courses in Pastoring. The Theological Practorium
was designed for the express purpose of training men to be able
to successfully pastor both new and established churches. This is
accomplished within the local church by an equal emphasis upon the
post graduate academic studies coupled with an intense on the job
training under pastors who have successful, long term ministries.
Since the first graduation in 1983, many men have entered the ministry.
Theological Practorium graduates are proving that God has blessed
them in their technical training as they distinguish themselves
in church planting, pastoring, and missionary work. The high academic
results of this educational regimen has caused Seminaries across
the country to now require "in church training" for their
students.
The
Theological Practorium functions according to the Biblical principle
of "Something
in exchange for something of value".
The student exchanges (barters) his time and labor for the Theological
Practorium training. The Pastor/professor takes oversight on
the student's work assignments and verifies his practical ministerial
experience in areas of church work. Students are required to
perform ten hours of work per week of practical ministries in
the local sponsoring church. It is during these ministries that
much of their church operational experience is gained. The Theological
Practorium is a marriage of the academic and practical experience.
It is this union which provides a superior preparedness for success
in pastoring for the student. This is the genius of the Theological
Practorium.
